The GLBT Historical Society Museum is pleased to partner with Unspeakable Vice to offer a monthly walking tour focused on the history of LGBTQIA+ resistance in the Castro neighborhood. Created by tour guide, former senior adjunct professor, and practicing designer Shawn Sprockett, Unspeakable Vice began as a close look at the queer origins of San Francisco, traversing the city’s North Beach and Barbary Coast areas to trace the history through from 1770-1960. This new tour closes a three-part story, extending Sprockett’s detailed and engaging storytelling to the Castro neighborhood.
Ten years after the White Night riots, the police came back. Meet the trans man doctors turned away, the lesbians who ran the blood drives and wards, and the community that answered a plague and two police riots with the same refusal. This tour includes a free round at the Lookout, overlooking the neighborhood you've just walked.
