Jewelle Gomez

Jewelle Gomez Jewelle Gomez is the author of seven books including the double Lambda Literary Award-winning novel, THE GILDA STORIES; as well as the play based on the novel which toured 13 US cities performed by Urban Bush Women Company. Her fiction, non-fiction and poetry are included in over one hundred anthologies. She has written essays, literary and film criticism for numerous publications including ‘The Village Voice,’ MS Magazine,’ ‘The Advocate, ‘The San Francisco Chronicle,’ and ‘Black Scholar.’ She was on the original staff of the first weekly Black television show, ‘Say Brother,’ (WGBH-Boston) and on the original board of the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD). She sits on the selection committees for the Commonwealth Club of California Book Awards, for the San Francisco and the California State Poet Laureates; and serves on the San Francisco Public Library Commission. She’s taught creative writing and popular culture at Hunter College (NYC), New College of California and Menlo College as well as lectured at higher education institutions around the country.
