Volunteer Opportunities

Most of our volunteer projects require a regular commitment, at a minimum two shifts a month. There are three main volunteer opportunities at the GLBT Historical Society; Archives, Castro Exhibit, and the Main Office.
Volunteering Archive

Archives (657 Mission St. #300)
Most archival Projects require a regular commitment from volunteers and are usually available during the week. These projects may include organizing materials, data entry, research assistance, transcribing oral histories and cataloging.

Castro Exhibit (499 Castro St.)
Volunteers are needed to help staff the GLBT Historical Society’s newest exhibit, “Passionate Struggle: Dynamics of San Francisco’s GLBT History” located at 499 Castro St.

Sign-up for a volunteer shift, either 12pm to 4pm or 4pm to 8pm, Wednesday through Saturday or Sundays 12-6pm. All volunteers will receive a brief operations and register training at the beginning of their volunteer shift. We encourage a twice monthly or once weekly volunteer commitment.
