Fat Girl, No. 3 (1995). A San Francisco-based “Zine for Fat Dykes and the Women Who Want Them.” Collection of the GLBT Historical Society.
Join Hands (January-March 1978). The newsletter of a San Francisco-based support group for gay prisoners. Collection of the GLBT Historical Society.
A new exhibition highlighting the GLBT Historical Society’s holdings of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex periodicals published in Northern California from the 1940s to the 2000s.

The magazines, newspapers, newsletters, and zines on display reflect how queer people have used periodicals to create community, develop culture, express desire and inspire activism. From sober to sleek, from coy to explicit, from apolitical to militant, the publications demonstrate the myriad ways LGBTQ people have found empowerment in print.
